Crewelwork Weekend

Created for embroidery by Cathy from a beautiful original design by local contemporary folk artist, Sue Prince, the Gritstone sheep is worked in a striking range of Appleton's 2-ply crewel wools on pure linen twill fabric.  You are invited to join us in stitching this project on a relaxing  weekend away in the lovely village of Alstonefield, with plentiful supplies of tea, coffee & cake, as well as delicious lunches each day!

£5 from the sale of each workshop place will be donated to Alzheimer's Research UK (please see below for more details).

The Programme
The programme is designed to allow you maximum stitching time, but at the same time incorporating relaxing breaks for refreshments,  give you opportunity to enjoy the wonderful Village environment you are in. You may wish to continue sewing during the evening in your room or at home, but this is not obligatory! Read the outline programme with timings here.

Suitability
Intermediate. The project is suitable for beginners to Crewelwork who have some experience of stitching.  Crewelwork provides a very good introduction to  to embroidery with the opportunity to learn a comprehensive range of stitches on a relatively large 'canvas'. The course is limited to 12 persons.

Times
Saturday: 10.00 am - 5.00 pm (arrival from 9.30 am.)
Sunday: 9.00 am - 4.00 pm (arrival from 8.30 am.)

Refreshments
Tea, coffee & home-made cake will be served each day in the afternoon.
Tea, coffee & home-made biscuits will be served each day in the  mornings.
A hot savoury buffet lunch will be served each day in the Village Hall.

Please notify us of any special dietary requirements and/or food allergies at the time of booking.

Materials & Equipment
All materials for the embroidery are included in the price. The design measures 11" x 8" and will be pre-printed onto your linen twill measuring 20" x 16". Equipment is provided for your use during the weekend, including a 17" x 11" or 14" hand frame to hold your fabric. If you prefer to use your own frame, please bring one large enough for the project. An upholstered frame with pins would be suitable, but an embroidery hoop is not. If you have your own slate frame and would like the fabric in advance to prepare, please contact me to arrange for this to be posted to you. More about the Workshop
Demonstrations during the weekend will be done via video on a big screen. You will have full access to the video at the end of the weekend. We aim for you to part-complete your embroidery and to leave feeling confident to be able to finish it off at home with the assistance of the video tutorial.  Tutored by Cathy, you will work the main stitches used in the embroidery, including bullion & French knots, Turkey Rug stitch & Raised Fishbone stitch.

Price
£175 per person, including all materials and refreshments as listed above, and access to a step by step YouTube video tutorial at the end of the weekend.

Payment
£50 deposit is required at the time of booking.
The balance is payable 3 months before the start of the workshop, either by BACS transfer or cheque (details will be provided). Read the full terms and conditions here.

Charity Donation
Sue Prince has kindly agreed to waive any fee for the use of her design for needlework and as a result, we have jointly decided that £5 from the sale of each workshop place will be donated to Alzheimer's Research UK, whose purpose is to find a cure for the diseases that cause dementia.

Cancellation
Should you need to cancel your booking we will do our utmost to fill your place, however if no replacement can be found, we regret that you will not be eligible for any refund. However the full kit with video tutorial would be sent to you. We strongly advise you to take out cancellation insurance. Read the full terms and conditions here.
