Crewelwork Weekend

Adapted for needlework by Cathy from a beautiful original design by local contemporary folk artist, Sue Prince, the Gritstone sheep is worked in a striking range of Appleton's 2-ply crewel wools on pure linen twill fabric. You are invited to join us on a relaxing Crewelwork Weekend away at Beechenhill Farm in the Peak District, close to Dovedale and the pretty village of Ilam. (see photos in the Gallery below).
At Beechenhill, there is self-catering accommodation for small groups (2+) Please contact Beechenhill direct to book.

The Programme
Beginning with tea & cakes on Friday afternoon, the programme is designed to allow you maximum stitching time, but at the same time incorporating relaxing breaks for refreshments, short talks, and simply to give you opportunity to enjoy the wonderful environment you are in. You may wish to continue sewing during the evening in your room or at home, but this is not obligatory! Read the outline programme with timings here.

Suitability
The project is suitable for those with some experience of stitching. Crewelwork provides a very good introduction to  to embroidery with the opportunity to learn a comprehensive range of stitches on a relatively large 'canvas'. The course is limited to 12 persons.

Date(s)
This weekend Crewelwork workshop was run several times from November 2016 to September 2017, and may be run again in the future, should there be sufficient demand.  Please register your interest by contacting us.

Times
Friday: 3.30 pm - 5.30 pm. (arrival at 3.00 pm. for afternoon tea)
Saturday: 9.30 am - 4.30 pm.
Sunday: 9.30 am - 3.30 pm.

Refreshments
Tea, coffee & home-made cake will be served each day in the afternoon.
Tea, coffee & home-made biscuits will be served on Saturday & Sunday mornings.
A light lunch of home-made soup, home-made bread & local cheese will be served on Saturday & Sunday.
Refreshments are served in the Haybarn Gallery, accessed by one flight of stairs (ramp outside).
Please notify us of any special dietary requirements and/or food allergies at the time of booking.


Materials & Equipment
All materials for the embroidery are included in the price. The design measures 11" x 8" and will be pre-printed onto your linen twill measuring 20" x 15". Equipment is provided for your use during the weekend, including a 17" x 11" hand frame to hold your fabric. If you prefer to use your own frame, please bring one large enough for the project. An upholstered frame with pins would be suitable, but an embroidery hoop is not ideal. Individual lights will also be available for your use over the weekend. More about the Workshop
We aim for you to part-complete your embroidery and to leave feeling confident to be able to finish it off at home. Tutored by Cathy, you will work all the stitches used in the embroidery, which will include split back stitch, stem stitch, bullion & French knots, fly stitch, long & short stitch and raised fishbone. You will be shown how to wash, stretch and finish your work. Read the outline programme with timings here.

Price

Payment
£50 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking.
The balance is payable 8 weeks before the start of the workshop, either by BACS transfer or cheque (details will be provided). Read the full terms and conditions here.

Cancellation
The deposit made at the time of booking is non-refundable.
Should you need to cancel your booking we will do our utmost to fill your place, however if no replacement can be found, we regret that you will not be eligible for any refund. We strongly advise you to take out cancellation insurance. Read the full terms and conditions here.
