Developed in the town of Mountmellick in Ireland in the 19th century, this type of whitework is characterised by plants and flora and is typically worked on cotton sateen fabric with matt white cotton of differing thicknesses. This particular design by Cathy measures approximately 7.5" x 5" and is of a climbing hydrangea, using typical stitches such as padded satin, coral knot and Mountmellick stitch. Suitable for those with some experience of stitching. As a guide, it is helpful if you are already familiar with stem stitch and French knots. You don't need to have any experience of Mountmellick embroidery
