Schwalm embroidery originates in Germany in a region along the Schwalm River. It is characterised by a coral knot stitch and chain stitch outline. The shapes are then filled in using pulled and/or drawn thread work stitches. The fairy is worked on pure evenweave white linen in a 10" embroidery hoop. The preparation work involves transferring the design onto your linen using the tissue paper technique. After stitching the coral knot and chain stitch outline stitches, you will learn to work satin block filling (pulled thread work) and wing filling stitches (drawn thread work). Suitable for those with some experience of stitching. As a guide, it is helpful if you are already familiar with chain stitch and coral knot stitch. You don't need to have any experience of pulled or drawn thread work techniques.
Together with an online YouTube tutorial, the kit includes 25 count pure evenweave linen, Coton a Border embroidery threads, crewel & tapestry needles, tissue paper, tacking thread, small piece of hessian for practise. colour photograph, full instructions and stitch key.
If you are buying as a gift, the kit and tutorial can be sent direct to the recipient at a time of your choice if details are supplied in the notes/comments box when completing your purchase.
