Udaipur Elephant Scissor Keeper Inspired by the wall murals at the City Palace in Udaipur, this scissor keeper is worked with silk threads on grey silk, and introduces a number of embroidery stitches such as herringbone, French knots, velvet stitch & split back stitch. Elephants never forget where their scissors are kept!
Suitability - Intermediate Suitable for those with some experience of stitching. As a guide, it is helpful if you are already familiar with split back stitch and French knots.

What you need to bring . All materials and equipment will be provided, but you may wish to bring your own 6" embroidery hoop if you have one. A seat frame is best, but not essential. Alternatively, you may borrow a standard hoop for the day.

About the Workshop After tracing the pattern onto silk dupion, you will work the elephant outline before filling in the shapes with various stitches, including attaching the silver ear using goldwork techniques. It is possible to complete the stitching for this project during the day, dependent on your experience. However, everyone will learn all the stitches required to work the design. You will be given full details and materials about how to complete the scissor keeper at home. It measures 2.5 x 2.5".
