Schwalm embroidery originates in Germany in a region along the Schwalm River. It is characterised by a coral knot stitch and chain stitch outline. The shapes are then filled in using pulled and/or drawn thread work stitches. The fairy is worked on pure evenweave white linen in a 10" embroidery hoop. The preparation work involves transferring the design onto your linen using the tissue paper technique. After stitching the coral knot and chain stitch outline stitches, you will learn to work satin block filling (pulled thread work) and wing filling stitches (drawn thread work). Suitable for those with some experience of stitching. As a guide, you should be able to stitch with chain stitch and coral knot stitch without instruction. You don't need to have any experience of pulled or drawn thread work techniques.
