A Crewelwork Pheasant
Worked on pure linen twill with Appleton's crewel wools, this pheasant is part of a larger piece of work originally designed by Cathy for the Royal School of Needlework Certificate qualification. The pheasant itself was inspired by the visiting pheasant to our garden! The embroidery itself measures c. 8" x 8" at the widest points and is worked in a 10" embroidery hoop on linen twill measuring approximately 14" x 15". The embroidery features a very wide range of stitches including Vandyke, Cretan, Ermine, Pekinese, Long & Short, Fly Stitch, Feather Stitch, Buttonhole Stitch, Bullion Knots & Stem Stitch. Suitability - Advanced
Prior experience of embroidery is required. As a guide you should be able to work stem stitch, split back stitch, blanket stitch and feather stitch without instruction. You do not need to have experience of Crewelwork.
Dates
You may attend any 2025 workshop to begin this project.
Cost
£75 per person including all materials and access to a YouTube tutorial after the workshop.
Currently £35 for any subsequent workshop to work the same project (with tutoring but no materials provided).

10.00 am. to 4.00 pm. with 45 minutes for lunch
Arrival:- from 9.30 am.
Please note that you may start stitching from 9.30 am. if you wish.

What you need to bring
A packed lunch.
10" embroidery hoop, both rings of which should be bound with white cotton tape or bias binding. A seat frame is recommended, as standard 10" hoops are too flimsy.
(Everything else is provided, including needles & embroidery scissors. However you are welcome to bring your own sewing kit if you prefer).
About the Workshop
The workshop is limited to 12 persons, who may be working on different projects. The design will be pre-printed onto your linen twill. During the workshop itself, a range of stitches will be taught, including Vandyke, Cretan, Pekinese, Long & Short & Buttonhole. A link to the video tutorial will be e-mailed to you after the workshop in order for you to be able to complete the embroidery at home, or return to attend another workshop at a reduced price.
