Crewelwork Exotic Bird Worked on pure linen twill with Appleton's crewel wools, Cathy's design for this bird was inspired by a Delft plate seen in Germany. The embroidery itself measures c. 4.25" x 5.25" at its widest points and is worked in a 6" embroidery hoop on linen twill measuring approximately 10" x 10". The embroidery features a wide range of stitches including Block Shading, Trelliswork, Turkey Rug stitch, Fly stitch, chain stitch, herringbone stitch, stem stitch, French knots & bullion knots. As an alternative to the workshop, a kit with online tutorial will be available to purchase in 2025.
Suitability - Beginners Suitable for anyone who would like to learn crewelwork and a wide variety of stitches. Also suitable for enthusiasts.
Cost £65 per person including all materials and access to a YouTube tutorial after the workshop. Currently £35 for any subsequent workshop to work the same project (with tutoring but no materials provided).

Refreshments Tea & coffee is provided throughout the day, with home-made biscuits mid-morning and cake mid-afternoon.
What you need to bring A packed lunch. 6" embroidery hoop, both rings of which should be bound with white cotton tape or bias binding. A seat frame is recommended, however you may borrow a standard 6" hoop for the day if requested in advance. (Everything else is provided, including needles & embroidery scissors. However you are welcome to bring your own sewing kit if you prefer).
About the Workshop The workshop is limited to 12 persons, who may be working on different projects. The design will be pre-printed onto your linen twill. During the workshop itself, a range of stitches will be taught, including Block Shading, Trelliswork & Turkey Rug stitch. A link to the video tutorial will be e-mailed to you after the workshop in order for you to be able to complete the embroidery at home, or return to attend another workshop at a reduced price.
