Jacobean Crewelwork
Tree of Life
Worked on pure linen twill with Appleton crewel wools, this design by Cathy was inspired by the tradition of Jacobean embroidery, with a contemporary addition of seed beads and gold thread. The embroidery itself measures c. 8" x 8" and is worked and shown in a 10" embroidery hoop (not included). The embroidery is worked on a piece of linen twill 15" x 15". Suitability - Intermediate
Prior experience of embroidery is required. As a guide you should be able to work stem stitch, French knots & blanket stitch without instruction. You do not need to have experience of Crewelwork.
Dates
You may attend any 2025 workshop to begin this project.
Cost
£75 per person including all materials and access to a YouTube tutorial after the workshop.
Currently £35 for any subsequent workshop to work the same project (with tutoring but no materials provided).

10.00 am. to 4.00 pm. with 45 minutes for lunch
Arrival:- from 9.30 am.
Please note that you may start stitching from 9.30 am. if you wish.

Refreshments
Tea & coffee is provided throughout the day, with home-made biscuits mid-morning and cake mid-afternoon.
What you need to bring
A packed lunch
10" embroidery hoop, both rings of which should be bound with white cotton tape or bias binding. A seat frame is recommended.
(Everything else is provided, including needles & embroidery scissors. However you are welcome to bring your own sewing kit if you prefer).
About the Workshop
The workshop is limited to 12 persons, who may be working on different projects. The design will be pre-printed onto your linen twill. A range of stitches will be taught, including heavy chain stitch, cretan stitch and burden stitch. A link to the video tutorial will be e-mailed to you after the workshop in order for you to be able to complete the embroidery at home or return to attend another workshop at a reduced price.
